Whispers and rumors spoke of the “Call”, though none knew exactly what caused it or what happened to those that answered it. What was certain is that none who did so were e’er heard or seen again.
Thus it was commonly considered foolish, or outright dangerous, to do so. Yet, the disappearances of so many heroic figures, often connected with the call, lead some bards to sing of it as a just reward by the gods for heroes having fulfilled their duty. These tales often leave out that though less common seemingly, those with far more sinister histories likewise would occasionally disappear.
